Search for Stocks by Industry Type

Before researching a stock, you first need to know the ticker symbol for that stock. If you know the type of industry that you would like to buy stocks from then you can find the companies and their ticker symbols related to that industry. For example, if you are looking for gold mining stocks, then you would browse the "Basic Materials: Mining: Gold Mining" sector.

A great, free place to search for stocks by the industry type is Big Charts. There, you can browse industries and their performance charts. When you choose an industry, you can browse the best or worst performing stocks over a specified time period. If you want to browse all stocks in the industry, you just click on the link that says, "Show All Stocks In This Industry."
