Although many more terms exist involving stock research, we will only list the most common terms beginners should know to start trading stocks without overwhelming them.


Bear Market: A market in which the trend of stock prices has been falling.

Blue Chip Stock: Stocks of industry leading and nationally known companies.

Bull Market: A market in which the trend stock prices has been rising.

Day Trader: Someone who buys stocks, and then sells them in the same trading session. (This form of stock trading is not recommended as most who try it lose money.)

Dividend: The distribution of part of a company's earnings to its shareholders.

Initial Public Offering (IPO): A company's first issue of shares to the general public.

Insider Trading: When someone who is involved with a company buys or sells that company's stock.
