Stock Options

Trading options is an advanced form of investing. When used correctly, however, option strategies can be some of the safest profitable trades. We suggest you first execute multiple paper trades and gain sufficient experience with options before making real trades. When you are ready to practice trading options, here's where you can start.

A great, free place to view option lists is Big Charts. First you will enter the ticker symbol of the stock whose options you're interested in. When the chart of the stock appears, it will contain a link named "options chain". When you continue to the options chain you will be brought to the Calls and Puts of that specific stock and their strike dates. Each option will have a unique ticker symbol. The list will display the current stock price, the option premium, the strike price, the volume traded, and the open interest (The number of option contracts not yet exercised). To learn some great option trading strategies refer to our Options Trading Strategies section.
